Drain Field Repair Mobile AL

Your septic tank is only half of your septic system. A properly installed and maintained drain field works with your septic tank to safely dispose of your home’s wastewater. Your septic system is designed to separate solid waste from the liquid waste, or effluent. Waste water flows from your home into the septic tank which is designed to hold the waste water for about 24 hours. During that time, the solid material settles to the bottom of the tank and forms a layer of sludge. The effluent then flows into the drain field, a series of plastic perforated pipes buried in rows in your yard. The drain field is often called a leech field because it allows the effluent to safely leech into the soil.

Drain Field Installation Bay Minette

Drain fields generally require little maintenance, but sometimes problems can occur from improper installation, poor septic tank maintenance, or unusually heavy use. That's when it's time to call our sewer and septic services experts. Poor septic tank maintenance can allow too much solid material to flow into the drain field and clog the leech lines. A greasy substance called biomass sometimes forms in the soil under the leech lines which stops the effluent from leaching into the soil. Heavy use can overwhelm a septic system that is too small to handle the load. Water flows into the drain field faster than the soil can accept it. Improper septic tank maintenance such as waiting too long between septic tank pumping can allow solid materials to clog the leach lines which results in slow or backed up drains.
